Committees/ One of us. One of us.
Personal & Professional Development Committee The Personal Development Committee is focused on events that help you grow as an individual. From knitting to changing a car tire, from meditation to self defense classes... we want to help you be the best you! The Professional Development Committee is focused on events that will help you grow as a young professional. From resume building classes to speed networking, we are completely focused on helping you and your career. Sports & Recreation Committee The Sports & Recreation Committee is one of the most active SYCP committees. Monthly events rotate depending on time of year. Hiking and mini golf are popular in the warmer months, while game night and bowling are common fall and winter get togethers. We also have several teams registered in a variety of CRPR leagues, including softball, volleyball and bocce. For many of these leagues, registration fees are waived or reduced for due paying members as part of your membership benefits. Our greatest success may be our participation in the YMCA of Centre County’s Polar Plunge every December. Since 2009, 125+ plungers helped raise over $25,000. Welcoming & Membership Committee The Membership & Welcoming Committee aims to support and integrate new members into SCYP. Welcoming is the go-to team for all member-related topics; it oversees membership dues, the Sips Ambassadors, and coordinates new member events. The purpose of the welcoming committee is to support the new members of SCYP and help them explore all of the events and opportunities that the group offers. Welcoming committee also coordinates the end of year membership survey so you can voice your opinion; what you loved, what wasn't so great, and what you would like to see the group do in the future. We're here to support our members and we want to hear from you. Marketing & Public Relations Committee The Marketing & Public Relations Committee spreads the word about SCYP to current and prospective members, the media, local organizations and businesses, and anyone else who might want to know what we do. We write social media posts and a weekly newsletter to keep our members aware of the latest SCYP news. We also provide information about the organization through interviews, news releases, and guest writing pieces. Volunteer & Outreach Committee The Volunteer & Outreach Committee schedules speakers from local nonprofits to speak at our Sips social event each month, coordinates diverse featured volunteer events for our membership, and participates in discussion at monthly SCYP Volunteer Committee Meetings. All ideas are welcome! If you are interested in taking an active role in partnering with State College-area organizations and learning from community leaders, then Volunteer is for you! All Volunteer Committee events are free and open to the public! Annually SCYP members work together with local State College-area nonprofits, volunteering over 500 hours for the Central PA community. Social & SIPS Events Committee The Social & SIPS Events Committee is all about fun. Our main focus is on planning recreational activities, from the monthly “Sips” happy hour to our end of year holiday party. If there’s something worth doing in Happy Valley, we’re there. We gather ideas from our membership for amazing events that everyone will love and connect with local businesses so that we’re always taking advantage of all that Happy Valley has to offer.
