Attention all SCYP members, and those interested in joining! You’re invited to join the State College Young Professionals at our semi-annual meeting on November 18th from 6-8PM at the State College Municipal Building (Room 112). This is a fantastic opportunity to share your ideas and opinions, and help shape the future of the organization. We encourage all members to attend and provide feedback and suggestions for future events and programs. In addition, we will be discussing vacant board positions, so if you’re interested in taking on a leadership role within the organization, this is the perfect chance to learn more and get involved! Happy Valley Improv Show (Discounted for members)

Expect to laugh until your sides hurt when you join us at Happy Valley Improv’s show on Friday November 14th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The company has generously offered tickets to SCYP members at a discounted price of $10 ($15 typically), so take this chance to come check them out with us if you have been looking for a reason to go! The show is at the Blue Brick Theatre, which has a BYOB policy. Plans can be made to stay out afterwards for food and drinks if attendees are interested. 

Note: Ticket prices reflect the cash price, additional transaction fees occur when buying with a credit card online. SCYP will not provide food or drinks at this event.

November Sips at The Press

Check out the newest establishment in downtown State College with us on November 5th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm! The Press: Cider & Craft Beverage Tap House (113 Heister Street, State College, PA) opened in early October and promises to be a place where “curiosity meets community” – building a suitable atmosphere for us young professionals. Good conversations will be had, satisfying beverages (including a few NA options) will be consumed, and snacks from a nearby restaurant will be enjoyed.

About Sips:
Sips is a chance for you to network with new folks, catch up with old friends, and learn about the many upcoming SCYP events. Bring your friends or co-workers with you, it’s a great time for all. Our Sips socials typically have 35-40 attendees.
Non-Members:
Not a member? Just want to test drive SCYP for a night? Stop on by! Non-members may attend Sips for $8. Participate in a Sips and you’ll get a chance to meet with current members, board members, and see what SCYP can offer you. By the end of Sips if you would like to become a member, you may apply your $8 to the cost of your membership!
Members:

Holiday Party Planning Committee First Meeting

Can’t wait for winter? Already full of Holiday Spirit? Then join us for the kick-off Holiday Party Planning Committee meeting on October 29th, 7 pm at Boal City. In these meetings we will pick a theme for the party and plan the menu, activities, and all the other details for the holiday party on December 12th in the Ramada Inn’s Nittany Room. Please attend if you are interested, as this party will only shine with the input of many. No RSVP is needed, please just find Michael with the blue SCYP sign when you arrive.

Trivia Night at PSU Golf Courses

Location: 1523 W College Ave, State College, PA 16801

Date/Time: Tuesday, Oct 14th, 5:15pm (Trivia starts at 5:30pm)

PSU Golf is hosting trivia, so join us for a fun night! This is a PSU Golf event so we have reserved seats. Please note the earlier than normal start time for this event. Trivia will be hosted inside the Walker Clubhouse by the Nineteenth Hole Cafe. We will NOT have a check-in table, but we’ll let you know where we are in the event discussion. We encourage new and prospective members to come to this small group event.

Mental Health Workshop with Jena Frey Kirk, LPC

Join us on Tuesday, October 21 at 6pm at the State College Municipal Building, Room 220 for a workshop on mental health with a special focus on navigating issues related to anxiety and depression. Led by a licensed professional counselor, this interactive session will offer tools you can use in everyday life to manage stress, build resilience, and cultivate emotional well-being. Whether you’re personally struggling or simply want to better support others, this workshop will equip you with insights and skills for a healthier state of mind.

This event is open to members and non-members.

Volunteering: Tussey Mountainback Transition Zone

6 volunteers are needed as we provide as much support as we can to the runners participating in the Mountainback.

Event Date: Sunday, October 26th
Event Start Time: 10:00am (to 3:00pm)

Set up food and beverage, record arrival times for Ultra runners, provide basic first aid supplies (as needed), manage parking and break down the site when all runners are through.

General Location: Kettle Road and Cooper’s Gap Road

Hike: Musser Gap New Trails

The hike will be Saturday, 10/25 at 12PM. We will meet at noon and leave from the trailhead at the parking lot.

This is a basic introduction to 2025’s newly built trails in Musser Gap. You’ll climb up the gravel path and ascend the original Musser Gap Reroute, then cut over to the top of the lower ridge on Fern Winder.

It should take 1 1/2 – 2 hours. This event is open for members and non-members. Please remember to dress appropriately and bring water.

SCYP Volunteer: Spring Creek Park Fall Cleanup Day

Location: Spring Creek Park, 901 Houserville Rd, State College, PA 16801

Enjoy a weekend day outside with a good deed by helping keep Spring Creek Park one of the best parks in the area at our fall clean-up! Volunteers will help by picking up litter, maintaining planting beds and walkways, trail cleanup, and many more activities supervised by the Centre Region Parks & Recreation (CRPR) staff. SCYP is an official Park Partner through CRPR.

Help your community out, spruce up the park, enjoy nature, and hang out with some other SCYP members! Non-members are encouraged to participate.

**We will meet in the MAIN parking lot area accessed from the entrance off Houserville Road.

**Be sure to bring water and work/gardening gloves. We have a few pairs of gloves we can lend to volunteers. Please wear a SCYP shirt if you have one to help represent SCYP as we work to make the park beautiful! If you don’t have a t-shirt, we’ll be giving out legacy SCYP t-shirts to volunteers (sizing is limited).

After the event, some of the group usually heads to a local spot for lunch!
