SCYP Volunteer: YMCA Anti-Hunger School Backpack Packing

Come join us in helping pack backpacks for local students in need! We will join a group of Penn State students on campus for their regular Tuesday packing event. The event end time is variable depending on the number of volunteers as we have a goal number of backpacks to pack, but is often less than 2 hours.

Centre County YMCA’s Anti-Hunger School Backpack Program distributes over 1,500 backpacks each week to our county’s public schools. Local students enrolled in the Backpack Program receive a backpack each Friday (or final day of the week) during the school year to ensure students have enough food to eat over the weekend. Each backpack contains breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack for Saturday and Sunday. You can learn more about the Anti-Hunger program here

Climb Nittany Event

Join your fellow young professionals on March 29th for an afternoon of the engaging, and socially-minded sport of indoor rock climbing at Boalsburg’s Climb Nittany. Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned pro there are always good routes and boulder problems to solve at the gym. We are fortunate to be located 30 minutes to 3 hours driving from some “real” rock climbing spots, so who knows, you might develop a new passion and outdoor hobby!

Climb Nittany offers boulder problems (without ropes on short walls with thick padded floors) and roped routes (on ~40 feet tall). At least 1 climber has offered to belay (hold the rope) for participants wanting to try roped climbs!

The event will be free for SCYP members going to the gym for the first time and discounted for several SCYP members returning to the gym. All others are welcome to join us! See the Google Form link for exact details!

We will climb for a few hours, then can optionally go out for a snack or drink locally in Boalsburg.
