Join The State College Young Professionals for a tour of the Penn State Paleobotany Lab led by Ph.D. Candidate and Paleobotany expert Eddie Spagnuolo. The tour will include both the preparation lab, where dirt and sediment are removed from fossil specimens after collection in the field, and the imaging and analysis lab. You will see state-of-the-art fossil preparation and imaging tools, practice how to prepare fossils and learn about some of the palaeobotanical research being conducted at Penn State. You will learn about the importance of fossils as a tool for modern conservation efforts and see fossils from across the world, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Australia, and the United States.

Join the State College Young Professionals for a fun night of trivia at Red Horse Tavern on Tuesday, August 25! Check-in begins at 6:30 PM, and we’ll grab seats together before trivia gets underway.

Trivia is hosted by Red Horse Tavern, but SCYP board members will arrive early to reserve seating. There will not be a check-in table, but we’ll post our location in the event discussion so you can easily find the group.

We especially encourage new and prospective members to join us for this casual, small-group event!

We will work together as a group and make our way all throughout Arts Fest, making sure that the many trash and recycling cans get emptied and are available for the many attendees. Not only is this a unique way to see Arts Fest, it’s also a great way to see all of the effort and appreciation that goes into creating and running such a large event. We will also be making a well-timed pit stop at Zeno’s or A’s Pub halfway through our shift for some much deserved refreshment. Additionally, if you cannot commit to the entire 3 hours but still want to help out, just let us know.

***Please note that this is right in the middle of the festival and you cannot easily drive to the meeting spot. There is parking available at some downtown parking garages and side streets, but it is preferable to park further away and walk to the meeting spot. Please keep this in mind when arriving.

We’ll meet in the parking lot at 6:00 PM and split into groups of 3–4 to play a round together. Whether you’re a mini golf pro or just looking for a fun way to spend the evening, this is a great opportunity to connect with fellow members and enjoy a summer night out.
